Influence of Chemical Composition on Heating Value of Biomass: A Review and Bibliometric Analysis

Biomass has become an increasingly important resource for energy generation. The influence of the chemical composition on heating value biomass not been a thoroughly studied subject, as shown by bibliometric analysis. It is well known that lignin significantly higher (23.26–25.58 MJ/kg) than polysaccharides (18.6 MJ/kg), while extractives often have HHVs over 30 MJ/kg, depending their oxidation levels. Therefore, proportions components in determine its HHV. Softwoods generally hardwoods due to contents and lipophilic resin. Ashes are incombustible, high ash content leads lower HHV biomass. Several models proposed correlate values compounds biomass, but most accurate based from extracted samples, good correlations between also reported. No obtained with polysaccharide compounds.
